Scenes from Fourth Annual We Will Walk Together
On Orange Shirt Day/National Truth and Reconciliation Day, September 30, McGill Faculty of Education held its fourth annual Skátne EntewathahĂta / We Will Walk Together event.
Opening ceremonies centred on the theme of “Education is the key to reconciliation” and were comprised of stories and speeches from members of Indigenous communities and allies. Following some soulful singing and drumming, participants were invited to attend an information fair in the Educational Buidling Learning Commons that showcased Indigenous education, research, and resources from the Faculty of Education, the University, and other organizations.
While traditionally an organized walk was part of the event, this year’s “walk” around the information fair may have been more powerful than a solidarity march as the activity prompted new engagement and promoted insightful dialogue.
