Dr. Victoria Talwar, ECP, on Three Steps to Teach Children About Honesty in Greater Good Magazine and Parenting Translator
Dr. Victoria Talwar, from the Department of Educational & Counselling Psychology, writes about the three steps to teach children about honesty and how to help kids get better at telling the truth, in this Greater Good Magazine article. She was also recently interviewed on Parenting Translator.
Children are taught how to count, to read, to tie their shoelaces. They learn to develop the abilities they need to be happy, active, and well-adjusted adults. Honesty is one of those behaviors. It forms the basis of trust in our relationships. Learning how to be honest and communicate in a respectful, kind, and truthful manner is an important skill we need to teach our children.
In her new book, The Truth About Lying: Teaching Honesty to Children at Every Age and Stage, Dr. Talwar shares what she has learned about teaching children about honesty, how to deal with children’s dishonesty, and how to develop a close relationship based on open and truthful communication.
