Description of Planned Activities
CSSS Thetford: Placement of learners in the appropriate training group. In the beginning, formative assessment of skills through written and oral testing for the 24 learners; 180 hours of training through an English-language conversation program tailored to the field of health and social services. Strategy: role playing, naming of body parts, talking about individual problems, summarizing newspaper articles and reports, conversation. Institutional certification for each participant.
CSSS Grand Littoral: Written and oral placement test. A customized intermediate-level training program tied to the intake of English-speaking users, for a total of 24 hours in 2 hour blocks. There will be formative evaluations at the beginning and end of training to assess achievement of the program objectives and report on the skills acquired. For a professional group, an instructor will visit each main service point to evaluate the professionals’ English language proficiency in order to assess the situation and possibly develop a customized upgrading program.
