Daniel Barczyk is an economist whose research centers on macroeconomic questions where family dynamics play a pivotal role. At the heart of this agenda is a partial-risk-sharing framework which enables explicit modeling of individual family members’ decisions (e.g. savings and labor supply) and interactions (financial and time transfers). Informed by data, he uses this framework to study questions especially relevant in aging economies, such as, retirement savings and bequests, housing choices of the elderly, and the determinants of long-term care arrangements within families and their response to government policies.
