Welcome to the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada

The vision of the IECM is to promote a better understanding of Canada.

To realize this vision, the IECM's mission is to advance Canadian society primarily by organizing conversations on topics that are important to Canadians, by training students and motivating them to shape the Canada of tomorrow, and by fostering interdisciplinary research on Canada.

The MISC Strategic Plan for 2024-2026 can be found here:ÌýMISC Strategic Priorities 2024-2026

Public awareness and mobilization

The CMSI produces programs and brings together students and members of the public at a variety of events, including panels, webinars, the Mallory and Eakin Lectures, and our annual conference. All events focus on topics that matter to Canadians and are relevant to current public affairs. Learn more about our upcoming events here .

Undergraduate teaching

The MISC offers undergraduate students three distinct but complementary interdisciplinary programs: Canadian Studies, Indigenous Studies, and Quebec Studies. As part of the Faculty of Arts, MISC focuses on perspectives from the humanities and social sciences. At the same time, MISC aims to be a hub for people from across campus and beyond who are interested in the study of Canada.

University research work

The IECM supports a multidisciplinary approach to the study of Canada and fosters the development of networks in the field of Canadian studies by bringing together students and researchers on the past, present and future of the country.
