DISE faculty members Dr. Michael Lipset and Dr. Bronwen Low, along with Dr. Habib Siam (DISE, ’17), are piloting two recording arts high school re-engagement programs in the Winter of 2025, in collaboration with community leaders, Education MA student Mohit Kumar and BEd student Marcus Pavico. Studio4 MTL is a French secondary education program for young people in Montreal who have been pushed and kicked out of the traditional school system.

Studio 4 MTL will offer young people the opportunity to earn their high school diploma through the recording arts and other creative and culturally sustaining endeavors. The team includes Chalet Kent youth center (dir. Karl St-Victor) in Côte-des-Neiges, as well as For the Cause (dir. Rondo Brown) in Montréal Nord. Funded by the Somers Foundation, Studio 4 MTL will pursue formal school accreditation through the Quebec Ministry of Education’s PACTE/RERAQ pathway.

The school is modelled on the High School for Recording Arts (HSRA, St. Paul, MN); Lipset is Director of HSRA’s international school transformation and “remix” nonprofit, 4 Learning.
