New Quebec Excellence Scholarships Being Awarded to B.Ed. Students
Montreal, December 12, 2019 — The Quebec Minister of Education, Jean-François Roberge, has officially announced today the launch of the Bourses d’excellence aux futurs enseignants program, offering $15.8 million dollars in scholarship money to Education students enrolled in a full-time Bachelor of Education program leading to teacher certification. Of the available funds distributed to institutions across the province, Prof. Alain Breuleux, Associate Dean Academic Programs, is proud to announceMcGill’s Faculty of Education will receive $836,000 for this inaugural year of the program.
In preparation for the government announcement, the Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Education has been working over the past several weeks to identify the recipients according to the criteria set-up by the Ministry. The value of each scholarship is $7,500 annually, with the exception for students in year 4, where it is $3,900 due to the Intern Perseverance and Success Scholarship given to students going out on their Fourth Year Field Experience.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence; students need not apply. Below is a brief description of the program:
Year 1 students coming from CEGEP are ranked in terms of the “R scores” and students in years 2, 3, and 4 are ranked in terms of CGPA. This year, the Faculty will distribute 27 scholarships for students in Year 1, 2, and 3, and 58 scholarships for Year 4 students. These numbers are pro-rated across the following B.Ed. programs: Kindergarten-Elementary, Secondary, Physical and Health Education, Music Education, TESL, and OFNIE. Recipients will be notified by the end of December 2019 with more details about the scholarship that they have been awarded.
