聽Dr. Julie C么t茅 Appointed SASSI Director
The Faculty of Education welcomes back聽Dr. Julie C么t茅,聽newly appointed Director of the Sylvan Adams Sports Science Institute (SASSI)聽as she returns from her sabbatical (September 1). Dr. C么t茅 has been a key leader in the establishment of SASSI and has previously served as Interim Director for the Institute and will continue to steer its research and collaborations across different sectors.
A Professor with the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) and former Chair (2016-2022), Dr. C么t茅 teaches biomechanics and ergonomics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. C么t茅 directs two research laboratories: the McGill Biomechanics of Occupations and Sport Lab (BOS) and the Occupational Biomechanics and Ergonomics Laboratory of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation (CRIR) of Greater Montreal.
Her research focuses on better understanding how repetitive movements are controlled and how personal attributes and environmental factors affect one鈥檚 neurophysiology, biomechanics, and movement production. Her work has led to recommendations for ergonomists, coaches, and therapists, and has been recognized by FRQS and CIHR Research Chair programs. Her current research in the area of sports sciences seeks to develop wearable technology and machine learning applications for use by elite and Paralympic cycling, running, swimming, and speed skating athletes.
Along with her expertise in the kinesiology sciences, Dr. C么t茅 is also a former certified track and field coach and a former national champion and provincial record holder in middle-distance running.
