SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship – Doctoral Award
Awarded to supports high-calibre students engaged in doctoral programs in all academic disciplines. This support allows scholars to fully concentrate on their doctoral studies, to seek out the best research mentors in their chosen fields and contribute to the Canadian research ecosystem during and beyond the tenure of their awards.
The 2020–2021 SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship – Doctoral recipient is:
Michael Auksi – Supervisor: Dr. Jordan Koch
“Indians Don’t Cry”: The Hockey History of the Anishinaabeg of Lac Seul First Nation.
Michael’s title is a tribute to his Dad’s (George Kenny) book of poems and short stories, Indians Don’t Cry. First published in 1977, the 2014 edition features both English and Anishinaabemowin —and its powerful narratives are still impactful today in schools. His Dad was also a legendary hockey player in the 60's for the Pelican Lake Indian Residential School Blackhawks.
FRQS Post-Doctoral Fellowship
Awarded to promote and provide financial support for all areas of research in the field of health, including basic, clinical and epidemiological research, research in the field of public health and research in the field of health services.
