Description of Planned Activities
This project seeks to furnish partner institutions who have offered internships with suitable social work students to fill these positions. A range of marketing and communications materials have been developed to try to interest students in these opportunities. The project also seeks to offer support to two further groups of professionals – those members of staff who supervise the students and social workers already working in English-speaking communities. A supervisors’ network will be created to share best practices. The project has also created some professional development materials which could be used at a distance by social workers in English-speaking communities. The first year (2005-06) of the project consisted of a preparatory one and facilitated the development of these materials. A small number of students were placed in internships in the first year with the majority of internships taking place in subsequent years. The budget is used to develop the networks as well as professional development materials.

Description of Planned Activities
This project responds to the need for social work professionals both native and non-native in the First Nations and Inuit communities in Quebec. One aspect of the project attempts to increase the number of organizations in these communities prepared to accept social work students. It also attempts to interest more social work students in placements in these communities. A second aspect of the project undertakes a needs assessment to indicate the needs of students going to work in these communities and the ongoing development needs of community workers (graduates of the McGill certificates) and social workers in these communities. The development opportunities of year one were implemented in subsequent years. The project also establishes a network of community groups and organizations which can act as a resource for advice and guidance throughout the project.
