IMPM alumna soars to new heights

Christina Foerster (IMPM, Cycle 16) has been appointed as the new CEO of Brussels Airlines, becoming the first woman to head a Lufthansa Group airline.

To her new role, Foerster brings considerable experience in the aviation industry, having served the Lufthansa Group in various roles, including general manager product management intercontinental, vice president network and fleet development, and senior vice president network, group & alliance development.

Taking on a major drought with solar power

Farmers in the coastal Kenyan county of Kilifi are locked into a drought that has so far killed over 20,000 livestock. And now the Red Cross is coming to the rescue. A new, solar-powered water delivery system has been set up to tap the area’s major pipeline and deliver water to pumps in villages throughout the area. The system reduces delivery interruptions caused by power outages, as well as the long walks that residents had to take to access the old system’s collection points.

IMPM student’s worldview changed in India

IMPM student Isabelle Graveline says that the programme’s Indian module has changed her approach to business — and life. She saw how Indian businesswomen were using micro-finance to improve their lives, and visited a $1.5 billion biopharm company, started in its founder’s garage in 1978, where “the biggest stakeholders are the employees.” For Graveline, “the firm’s focus on meeting its workers’ expectations really resonated with me.”

McGill and four other Canadian universities placed in the top 50 on Time Higher Education’s The World’s Most International Universities list for 2017. The rankings heavily favour schools with a tendency to ignore borders when setting up research collaborations and to have large populations of foreign staff and students.
