Marking the sixth year of participating in the 2018 Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC), a team of Desautels’ students took 1st place in the MATLAB Options Volatility Case.
MMF Guest Lecture: Peter Lindley
Peter Lindley, President and Head of Investments for State Street Global Advisors, Ltd Wednesday, February 21, 2018Mr. Lindley guest lectured with the Masters of Management in Finance students. He gave the students and in-depth analysis of strategic asset allocation and in particular his firm’s tactical asset allocation approach. He also discussed his firms approach to risk management and portfolio construction.
The Armstrong Building as a new frontier for Desautels
In January 2018, the Donald E. Armstrong Building, the new home for Desautels’ MBA and Masters programs, opened officially for classes.
Just under two months since its inauguration, The McGill Reporter delves into the benefits that this expansion has brought for all in the Faculty.
For example, in line with student feedback, the new building brings additional spaces for group work and quiet study areas, which will surely enhance learning.
Learning from experts: A recap of MMF guest lectures
Weekly guest lectures are an important component of the Desautels Masters of Management in Finance program. This past year included presentations from industry leaders in a diversity of fields, such as asset management, investment banking, venture capitalism and pension funds.
With guests from cities like Toronto, Paris, New York, and Boston, students have been able to not only broaden their knowledge, but also their network.Â

Armstrong Building opens to students
Our new MBA & Masters building is named for Professor Donald E. Armstrong, PhD’54 (1925-2011).
The 48,666 sq. ft. expansion by EKM brings new dedicated teaching and learning spaces that benefit all in the Faculty.
While the building is open for students as of January 2018, the grand opening is slated for May 25-27.

McGill launches first-ever competition on pension asset allocation
McGill hosted the world’s first business-school competition focused on the asset allocation of pension funds on November 3–4.
The inaugural McGill International Portfolio Challenge (MIPC) welcomed 25 finalist student teams from leading institutions around the world, with some traveling from as far away as Australia, Hong Kong and Switzerland to pitch their proposals to a panel of judges from several of Canada’s largest asset managers.

Second cohort of MMF students dive right in
Since starting up in July, the second cohort of the Masters of Management in Finance program is in full swing.
The diverse class of 42 students represents 11 countries and is joining the program with an array of academic backgrounds.
The participants also have a full slate of social engagement activities and sports achievements under their belts, and will build upon their existing work experience as they delve further into the world of finance.

Managing millions – while still in school
About 35 people will walk into a $3.5-million investment management operation and begin to work as analysts this summer. But they won’t be recent grads – well, not alums of finance programs. In fact, they’ll just be beginning their degrees in finance at the Desautels Faculty of Management.
