The O’Brien Graduate Fellowships were established in 2005 through a very generous gift from David O’Brien for outstanding Masters or Doctoral students studying in the area of human rights and legal pluralism in the Faculty of Law, Ï㽶ÊÓƵ. McGill’s graduate programs in law are the most extensive in Canada. Courses draw upon the civilian and common law traditions, but also include diverse legal traditions, legal theory, international law, environmental law, health law, human rights law, comparative private and public law, and air and space law.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor François Crépeau, O.C., O.Q., F.R.S.C., Ad. E., has been appointed officer of the Ordre national du Québec. He will be handed his medal by Premier François Legault during a ceremony at the National Assembly on 22 June. Â

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Johanne Poirier has received the 2022 John W. Durnford Award for Teaching Excellence. Named in honour of the late professor and former dean John W. Durnford (BCL'52), and conferred by students, this award each year recognizes a law professor’s exceptional pedagogy. Professor Poirier received the award during the Law Convocation ceremony on 26 May 2022 for the second time, having won it in 2019. Â
James (Sa’Ke’j) Youngblood Henderson, F.R.S.C., to receive honorary doctorate at Law Convocation
On 26 May, James (Sa’ke’j) Youngblood Henderson, F.R.S.C., will receive a Doctor of Laws (LLD), honoris causa, from Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, and give the commencement address at the 2022 Law Spring convocation ceremony.
Sa’ke’j Henderson is an internationally recognized authority in Indigenous knowledge, heritage, jurisprudence, constitutional rights, and human rights. He is the research director of the Native Law Centre of Canada and teaches Aboriginal law at the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan.
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Tina Piper has been appointed associate dean (academic) and that Professor Darren Rosenblum has been appointed associate dean (graduate studies).
They will begin two-year terms on 1 September 2022 and 1 August 2022, respectively. They are replacing Professor Rosalie Jukier and Professor Andrea Bjorklund, who will have completed three years in these roles.

Professor Jennifer Raso will join the Faculty of Law as assistant professor on 1 August 2022. Konstanze von Schütz will begin as Wainwright Junior Fellow on 1 January 2023. ´³Ã©°ùé³¾²â Boulanger-Bonnelly will begin as Boulton Junior Fellow on 1 January 2023. Both fellows will become assistant professors on 1 August 2023. Â

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce it was once again ranked among the world’s top universities at which to study law by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject in Law and Legal Studies placed McGill Law 31st worldwide. Â
Since QS introduced the ranking in 2011, the Faculty of Law has consistently placed in the top 35 institutions globally. The QS ranking is based on academic reputation, employer reputation, H-index citations, and citations per paper.Â
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Andrea K. Bjorklund has joined the panel of arbitrators for the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) for a six-year term. She was appointed by Canada’s Ministry of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development. Â
