12th Annual David Murphy Visiting Professorship

听

Named in honor of the Department's founder, this year's program will be a truly unique event. For the first time, the Visiting Professorship will be shared by two speakers:

Dr. Peter Masiakos, a pediatric surgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Honorable听Steven Baddour, Esq., former Massachusetts State Senator.

Dr. Masiakos, who received some of his training in Canada, has been a staunch advocate for gun control in the United States. His writings have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine (attached), and his recent efforts on Capitol Hill have been featured on CNN and other news outlets.听 His work听with Senator Baddour brought sensible legislation to Massachusetts.听

The two guests will speak about alliances between physicians and legislators that can bring advocacy to the forefront and result in major policy legislation. It will be a unique presentation.听

The morning will continue with an outstanding听pediatric trauma symposium to which all are invited (program attached)
