Admission Decisions & Advising Session

The School of Social Work does not offer pre-admission advising. The School of Social Work only reviews complete applications received on or before the stated deadline. The School of Social Work does not communicate admission decisions. Applicants are asked to accept or decline the offer of admission by the stated deadline. A mandatory advising session will be held in June.

Should you believe that an error has been made, there has been a significant change in your circumstances that was not previously noted in your application, or information may have been overlooked when the original decision was made, you may request reconsideration of your admission decision.

Procedures

  1. Submit an Electronic Inter/Intra-Faculty Transfer Application through Minerva. The online application will be available on March 1 and must be submitted by May 1.
  2. Submit BSW-required supporting documents directly to undergraduate.socialwork [at] mcgill.caby May 1st.

You are responsible for ensuring your application is complete by the firm deadline.

If returning to studies at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ after an interruption of one term or more, students must submit a readmission application on Minerva and indicate in the appropriate area they wish to transfer. A summary of activities during the absence should be included in the form's comments section.

Supporting Documents for Applicant to Send by Email to undergraduate.socialwork [at] mcgill.ca

Social Work Written Submission save as PDF and send to undergraduate.socialwork [at] mcgill.ca with the email Subject: Social Work Written Submission, applicant last name, McGill ID#.

Transcripts for advanced standing, university/college transfer credits, and course exemptions: If you received advanced standing or transfer credits/exemptions for exams or studies at other universities and you fall under any category below, you must arrange to have official transcripts sent to undergraduate.socialwork [at] mcgill.ca. To be considered "official," transcripts must be sent directly to the School of Social Work from your current faculty office or the host university where you studied. If sent from your faculty office, a certified photocopy is sufficient. NB: McGill and CEGEP transcripts are not required.

  • you studied at another university prior to or during studies in your current faculty;
  • you will be taking courses at another university during the upcoming summer term;
  • you interrupted your studies and, during your absence, completed courses at another university.

Extenuating Circumstances: In the rare event that extenuating circumstances have had a negative impact on your academic performance, you have an opportunity to report on these when you submit your application. Please familiarize yourself with the requirements found at /undergraduate-admissions/apply/submit-documents#extenuating-circums. However, you will need to send your extenuating circumstances information to undergraduate.socialwork [at] mcgill.ca

Supporting Documents for Referee to Send by Email

Two Letters of Reference from individuals who have direct knowledge of your performance in a helping capacity or your potential in the field of social work. These letters must be signed, on letterhead, and submitted electronically by referees.

FOR INTER/INTRA-FACULTY TRANSFERS (McGILL), letters of reference are submitted to undergraduate.socialwork [at] mcgill.ca with the email Subject: BSW Reference letter, student last name, referee last name.

Referees should address:

  • How long and in what capacity has the referee known you?
  • What were your responsibilities or roles as delineated by the referee?
  • What are your strengths and limitations in a professional program in social work from the referee’s perspective?

Admission Decisions & Advising Session

The School of Social Work does not offer pre-admission advising. The School of Social Work only reviews complete applications received on or before the stated deadline. A notification will be sent to your McGill account notifying you of a "change of status" to your application. You must then log onto your Minerva transfer application to read the faculty decision. If your application to transfer is successful, accept the offer by the indicated deadline. If you decline our offer, or fail to accept it by the deadline, you will remain in your current faculty. All decisions are final, and reconsideration is not possible. A mandatory advising session will be held in June.
