Inter-University Transfer - Transfer credit

Ď㽶ĘÓƵ

Step 1: Your approved IUT status will be noted on your McGill record as “IUT – Transfer” once the host university has informed McGill’s Enrolment Services that your course registration at the host university has been successful. This normally occurs after the Course Change (Add/Drop) Period ends for that term of study. If this coding does not appear by the 4th week of classes, please email iut [at] mcgill.ca.

Step 2: Once McGill’s Enrolment Services receives confirmation of the completed studies (including course numbers and individual final grades) directly from the host school, your Minerva transcript will be updated with the transfer credits you have earned.

  • Note: the grade earned at the host university will NOT appear on your McGill record and will NOT be calculated in your McGill CGPA. However, the grade earned in the host university course must be equal to or higher than the grade/CGPA required to graduate from the host university. Normally, this is equivalent to a grade of C or better according to the host university’s grading scheme. The policy applies to both elective and required courses.

Step 3: Program Requirement Approval

If you would like to use a course taken at another university to meet a program requirement (e.g., towards an honours, faculty, major or minor concentration), it is your responsibility to contact the department that administers the program of study and follow the program audit procedures explained on their website to use a course completed at another university towards a McGill program of study.

Note regarding online courses: refer to the Online Education page, and to the Policy on Transfer Credits for Online Courses.
