Your academic standing indicates how well you are doing in your program, whether you can continue to the next term and if there are any conditions attached to your registration, for example, how many credits you can register for in a given term.
It is your responsibility to review your academic standing on your unofficial Minerva transcript each term and report any issues to Arts OASIS.
When you start your program at McGill, you are in Satisfactory Standing. After the end of a term (Fall, Winter and Summer), your academic standing is calculated based on the final grades that are available on your Minerva record, your (see below) and your faculty regulations.
Standings for the Fall term are called Interim if you are registered for courses in the Winter. If you are not registered for courses in the Winter term, the Fall standing decision will be the final standing decision for the Fall and Winter academic year. When your academic standing has been generated, you can view it on your unofficial/advising or official McGill transcript.
Term | When academic standings are generated |
---|---|
Fall | January |
Winter | May |
Summer | September |
A Term Grade Point Average or your TGPA is calculated for each term of your current degree, based on the that are available on your Minerva record. If you are registered in a full year course taught in two consecutive terms (most commonly Fall D1 and Winter D2), no credit or final grade will be given for the course until it is completed at the end of the Winter term.
A Cumulative Grade Point Average or your CGPA is calculated using the of all the applicable undergraduate courses completed in your current degree.
Here are the different academic standing decisions:
Academic Standing | GPA Required | Conditions |

CGPA of 2.00 or higher | No conditions. You can continue in your program. | |

CGPA of 1.49 or lower | Significant conditions apply. You cannot continue without approval. |
