A. Dietetics Stage Preceptors

In recognition of exceptional dedication to the education of McGill’s Dietetics students, the School would like to offer the possibility of a formal appointment in Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’s School of Human Nutrition to Stage preceptors who contribute consistently and actively to the education of our students. This appointment, entitled, Affiliate Member (non-ranked, nil salary) is for a duration of three years.

This appointment gives:

  1. formal recognition of affiliation with the School, including photo and biosketch on our website
  2. full access to McGill Libraries
  3. a McGill email account
  4. access to advanced nutrition courses, continuous education activities

Criteria for Affiliate Membership

To be eligible for this appointment, preceptors/professionals are required to be practicing Dietitians/Nutritionists with active membership in l’Ordre professionnel des diététistes du Québec (OPDQ) and commit to exceptional dedication to student education.

This will be demonstrated by :

  • supervising an average of at least 3 student (or 9 weeks) stage placements annually for the 3-year term

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý AND/OR

  • co-supervising one graduate student project per year for the 3-year term

In addition, Affiliate Members are strongly encouraged to contribute at least once per year to instructional activities as requested. This could include: a lecture in a course on their expertise; practical instruction or facilitation in labs or simulation sessions; facilitation of small group teaching sessions or workshops; or facilitation of inter-professional education. At the time of re-appointment, your contributions in the last three years will be re-evaluated.

Activities within the School will give opportunities for Unité de formation continue (UFC) points and for Rayonnemement activities, which dietitians are being asked to report every three years to OPDQ.

B. Research Scientists

The School of Human Nutrition is a research-intensive unit that has many collaborations with industry partners, government scientists, and academics appointed to other universities. The School of Human Nutrition recognizes the great contributions these individuals make to the unit and its mission to generate, apply, and disseminate new knowledge and innovative methods for best practices in nutrition in the 21st century. With this in mind, the School is offering the possibility for a formal appointment at the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ School of Human nutrition for research scientists who actively participate in the continued education of our students in the novel and innovative methods and approaches used in the study of human nutrition and metabolism. This appointment, entitled, Affiliate Member (non-ranked, nil salary) is for a duration of three years.

Criteria for Affiliate Membership

To be eligible for this appointment, collaborators are required to clearly demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the pursuit of research activities with one or more SHN faculty members. Applicants are required to have an affiliation with another university or government/industry partner. Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Have demonstrated they are currently cultivating a long-term collaboration with faculty member(s) with the goal of helping SHN accomplish its research mission. For this, the applicant is required to provide a one-page document detailing their research collaboration with SHN member(s) and how this collaboration will benefit the School and its research mission

AND/OR

  1. Co-supervising one graduate student research project per year over the three-year appointment.

The undergraduate and graduate courses offered in the School are aimed at teaching students modern methods and approaches in nutrition. Research affiliate members are therefore strongly encouraged to contribute one lecture per year in a relevant course such as the NUTR 606 course, Human Nutrition Research Methods.

At the time of re-appointment, your contributions in the last three years will be re-evaluated.
