The Master of Science Applied Program in Human Nutrition (Dietetics Credentialing) at McGill offers a diverse learning environment that prepares graduates for professional careers as dietitians. Upon completion of this program, a student is eligible to register and practice as a dietitian in Canada and the degree is recognized internationally. ÌýThis is a limited enrolment program and only candidates with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 will be considered for admission. ÌýÌý
After a qualifying year to take any undergraduate courses required for registration to practice, students engage in three semesters of graduate level courses in the domains of interpersonal communication, clinical nutrition, and social and biological sciences, with several courses specifically focused on dietetics practice. Courses are also available to suit students’ individual interests and career goals. These courses will equip students with the necessary knowledge and skill set to take part in the three semester dietetics internship component of this program, where they Ìýhave the opportunity to learn and contribute in multidisciplinary environments, which include clinical nutrition, community nutrition, and foodservice management. The internship component also includes a 6 credit practice-based project and presentation, which will be chosen in consultation with the Program Coordinator.
FRENCH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
The language of instruction at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ is English. However, certain McGill programs include a mandatory internship, or ‘Stage’, which will be completed in various settings where the ability to communicate proficiently in French is essential. Proficiency in French is necessary for students to effectively and safely work with patients, families, and team members and for the successful completion of the programs listed below.
Programs that require proof of French proficiency:
- Human Nutrition (applicants to B.Sc.Nutr.Sc. Dietetics, only)
- Human Nutrition (applicants to the M.Sc. Applied, Dietetics Credentialing)
For more information, see French Language Proficiency

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Our graduates have developed successful and rewarding careers in a number of settings. These include hospital inpatient and outpatient units, long term care, community health centres, private consultation, outreach programs, rehabilitation facilities, pharmaceutical/nutraceutical companies, school boards, foodservice operations, food product development, and sales and marketing.
OUTREACH ACTIVITIES
The McGill dietetics program has internships in different parts of the world, as well as in the Montreal area. Students get the exciting opportunity to work with people from different cultures and gain valuable experience in a foreign setting. This aspect of the McGill dietetics programs has been steadily growing and placements now include the Caribbean (e.g., Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Antigua), Africa (e.g., Ghana and other West Africa nations), and Northern Ontario and Quebec (e.g., Iqaluit, James Baie, White Horse). These opportunities provide an enriching experience for students wishing to expand their knowledge and develop skill in working with other communities while, at the same time, making a contribution to the work being done there.
