Investigators interested in establishing a new Research Unit within the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences (FMHS) must adhere to the University’s Policy on Research Entities. The related Procedures for Research Units include requirements for by-laws and the application filing form for new research units, both of which must undergo review by the FMHS Committee for the Oversight of Research Units (CORU) and receive approval from the Dean of FMHS.
Provisional status granted by FMHS is the first step, after which, if the new Research Unit's activities are positively assessed by CORU during its initial two years, it may be encouraged to apply for full status as a McGill Research Unit through the Office of the Vice-Principal Research and Innovation (VPRI).
Proposals need to be formatted using the Template for Research Unit Proposals and its Appendix. Please send the application documents to the Office of the Associate Dean (Research) at riac.med [at] mcgill.ca.
In the evaluation process, CORU will assess the new Unit's alignment with the Faculty’s Strategic Research Plan. Financial support from FMHS depends on the yearly availability of funds. All FMHS Research Units and full-status McGill Research Units must submit an annual report for CORU's review.
