Submit your application
Before submitting your online application, you must first be nominated by your home institution. Nomination to the exchange program is not a guarantee of acceptance by McGill - minimum admission standards will apply.

Provide your supporting documents
In support of your application, you must submit the documents below, when applicable. Please note that these documents can be uploaded either at the time of application or later through the application portal.
Copy of university transcript
- This can be an unofficial copy of your transcript in either French or English, which must include a transcript key or grading information page
Letter of permission / nomination
- This is a letter from your home university confirming your nomination for an exchange at McGill, and duration of the exchange.
Proof of citizenship or residency
- A copy of your valid international passport, proof of Canadian citizenship, or Canadian permanent residency (if applicable)
Proof of English proficiency (if applicable)
- A letter signed by an academic official at the home university indicating proficiency in English OR language test result meeting McGill’s minimum requirements
Architecture portfolio
- Only required for students applying to Architecture
Note that your application will only be considered complete and ready for review once ALL required supporting documents have been uploaded to the applicant portal.

Receive your decision and accept your offer
Decisions for undergraduate exchange applications are made on a rolling basis, ensuring that all applicants receive a decision within one month of the posted application deadline.
Once a decision has been made, you will be able to view your offer letter in the applicant portal and will be prompted to accept your offer of admission.
Note: McGill only issues electronic versions of the admission letter.

Apply for your immigration documents
Once admitted, and if applicable, you should promptly begin the procedures to obtain the immigration documents required for your exchange.
Depending on the length of your exchange, you must obtain the following documents:
- Full-Year (2 terms): you must obtain a Certificate of Acceptance from Immigration Quebec and a Study permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada
- One Term Only: you must have a valid passport. Students from certain countries must obtain a Temporary resident visa

Apply for housing
If you are coming on an exchange, you may wish to consider applying for on-campus housing. While priority is given to first-year McGill-degree students, some places may be available for exchange students.
