Joana Alvarenga is the Course Director of IPEA 502 - Patient Centred Care in Action: - An Interprofessional Approach, which is a simulation activity. She has been practicing as a Physical Therapist at the Jewish General Hospital for the last 12 years. Joana’s involvement with Interprofessional Education started in 2015. Prior to joining the OIPE, she participated in the IPE curriculum as a facilitator, contributing to the improvement of student’s communication and collaboration skills. She is a clinical supervisor, training many students throughout her career. Teamwork, collaboration and patient/family centred care are part of her daily practice and her strong skills. Being an internationally trained Physical Therapist from Brazil, she became part of the ACCEPT (Advisory Curriculum Committee for Equivalency in Physiotherapy) to offer her input and assistance at the Equivalency program at SPOT (School of Physical and Occupational Therapy). Teaching is one her many passions and using simulation to enhance learning is a great area of interest to her.
