National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

Tuesday, December 6, 2022 10:30to11:00

Tuesday, December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, on which Canadians pause to remember the 14 women who were murdered, and the 14 others who were injured, in the massacre that took place at École Polytechnique de Montréal on December 6, 1989.

In 1991, 㽶Ƶ’s Senate adopted a resolution stating, in part, that “this violence cannot be forgotten by this generation or any other.” On this final day of fall classes, in accordance with the resolution, our community will observe a minute of silence at 10:37 a.m.

On December 6, McGill’s flags will fly at half-staff and members of the McGill community are invited to attend a memorial at 11:30 a.m., which will take place at the commemorative site located in front of University Centre, 3480 McTavish Street. In the case of inclement weather, the event will take place in the Ballroom of University Centre.
