What if my FINAL grades are lower than my projected grades?

If your final results fall below your anticipated results, it is possible that you may receive fewer than 30 credits. In some cases, you will enter the program as a U0 student and your registration will be modified with an academic adviser. Contact the BCom Office for Advising.

Building your schedule

Students receiving at least 24 credits

You will be permitted to register as a U1 student for the courses in the Management Core curriculum, based on the results of these examinations. The Faculty of Management grants a maximum of 30 credits for Advanced Level or Advanced Subsidiary Level or CAPE Unit 1 and/or 2 examinations.

  • Before registering for courses you MUST declare a major. You may change your major at any time in the future.
  • Build your schedule for both Fall and Winter:
    • Register for mandatory MATH courses based on your credits/exemptions granted upon admission.
    • As a U1, your first year is dedicated to taking Core courses, to help determine your interest and confirm your specialization.
    • MGCR 233 and MGCR 250 MUST be completed in your first year.
    • MGCR 271/MGCR 341 and MGCR 293/MGCR 294 are corequisite courses. They can be taken together in the same term, or separately in different terms where MGCR 271 and MGCR 293 must be completed first.
    • There are many sections offered for our Core courses and they are interchangeable between terms.
  • A typical full-time course load is 12-15 credits per semester. Scholarship/awards may require more. Review our Course Load information.
  • To lighten your course load, you can start by registering for 12 credits, or you can opt to take a non-management elective or a Minor course, instead of a Core course. But you must be mindful of your credit allocation and requirements for your degree.

Important Notes:

  • Students interested in our HIM program must complete MGCR 211, MGCR 271 and MGCR 341 in their first year, to be eligible to apply.
  • Students pursuing the Major in Economics must replace MGCR 293 with ECON 230D1/D2 and MGCR 294 with ECON 332 & ECON 333 (taken in 2nd year). Meet with a BCom advisor and an Economics advisor for more details.
  • Students pursuing the Major in International Management should start their Language Component in their first year.
  • If you've taken university-level courses prior to joining McGill and are expecting credits/exemptions, DO NOT register for the same courses offered at McGill. Please contact the BCom office for assistance with your registration.

Students receiving less than 24 credits

If the official transcript indicates you have not received at least 24 credits, you would then be required to follow the 120-Credit First Year Program. Depending on the number of credits you get from A-Levels, you may be permitted to register in Management Core courses instead of U0 year courses with the assistance of an advisor in the BCom Office.
