It’s been a rough ride for Bombardier’s management, workforce, and stock prices; but VP Investor relations Patrick Ghoche says that the company has navigated through the worst of it and is now delivering on its plan to be at the break-even point by late next year.
Desautels alumnus appointed to board at Rideau
Lester Fernandes (MBA’82) has been appointed to lead the audit committee of Montreal-based human-capital manager Rideau Recognition Solutions. The company is in full-on expansion mode; according to CEO Peter Hart, Mr. Fernandes’ experience will help the company hit its goals. And that experience is extensive: he’s been senior VP and CFO at Pivotal Payments since 2001. Before that, he spent a decade at BMO. He was also on the board of Castle Resources until 2016.
Desautels alumnus promoted at CIBC
According to BNN.ca, changes are afoot at CIBC: a shakeup of the management team has two department heads leaving the company, as well as a couple of promotions. One of those promotions sees Desautels alumnus Jon Hountalas (BCom’84, MBA’91), bumped up to Group Head, Commercial Banking and Wealth Management, Canada from his previous role of running the company’s commercial banking arm.

Philippe Cloutier (MBA'02) is the new Senior VP and CFO at Vidéotron, reporting directly to CEO Manon Brouillette. After less than a year at the job, Ericsson Senior VP and head of North American operations Rima Qureshi (BCom’87, MBA’96) has left the company. Chief Strategy Officer Niklas Hueveldop has stepped in on an interim basis, and the company has started the search for a permanent replacement. Ericsson is in the midst of a turnaround, streamlining operations and bumping up its investment in R&D.

Barclays Bank Kenya CEO Jeremy Awori (MBA’96) more or less fell into banking. He started out as a competitive swimmer, but when his Olympic dream fell apart he went to the UK on a scholarship and became a pharmacist.
After practicing for a few years, Mr. Awori opted for an MBA in Finance at McGill’s Desautels Faculty of Management, which led him into a job at Standard Chartered Bank.
