Kristin Denault

Kristin Denault is a PhD student who joined the School of Social Work in the autumn of 2024 under the supervision of Dr. Nico Trocmé. Before pursuing her doctoral studies, Kristin worked in Ontario’s child welfare sector for 18 years at both front-line and leadership levels. Her roles involved providing front-line service to children and families before moving into supervisory roles of investigation and family service teams. Kristin also served in leadership, including a range of program implementation and policy development positions.

Kristin’s research interests are focused on understanding and comparing how mainstream and First Nations social workers assess children and families in the child welfare system. She is a research assistant at McGill’s Center for Research on Children and Families, where she will work with Drs. Trocmé and Blackstock.

Kristin holds a Bachelor of Social Work (University of Manitoba), a Master of Social Work (Dalhousie University), as well as a Bachelor of Arts (Dalhousie University), and a Bachelor of Commerce (York University). She is a registered social worker (Ontario), a private clinical practitioner, and a trainer with the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS).
