Antonio Ribas is a physiotherapist from Brazil. He has recently completed his Masters in Public Policy and Development at the University of Brasilia (Brazil), and started his PhD at the same institution. For his Masters, Antonio researched the outcomes of the Mas Medicos (more doctors) program, implemented by the Brazilian Ministry of Health to facilitate access to primary health care physicians for the most vulnerable and deprived regions of Brazil. His research was presented at the 22nd World Conference on Health Promotion and it is soon to be published in a book. As part of a “sandwich PhD” program, Antonio spent half a year in the Department of Family Medicine at Ď㽶ĘÓƵ as a Graduate Research Trainee under the supervision of Dr. Anne Andermann, with a full scholarship from the ComissĂŁo de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal do Nivel Superior (CAPES) in Brazil. During this time he participated in two research groups relating to the theme of Homeless and Marginally Housed Persons – one at a national level to develop Canadian evidence-based guidelines for this population, and the other at a local community level in Montreal, involving the piloting of a community outreach clinic in Cote des Neiges. He contributed to a research group regarding interventions that are effective in improving the retention of health workers, especially in rural and remote areas. He also translated the CLEAR toolkit into Portuguese. Antonio is currently working as National Consultant in Health Education Management, in the Technical Unit of Human Capacities for Health at the Brazilian Office of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in Brasilia, Brazil.
