Chemical Engineering is a "relatively" young profession - not even a century old, formally speaking. The need for producing goods and services created by advancement of "industrial" Chemistry spun off the profession which has its craddle in North America.
The profession is now organized in Chemical Engineering professional societies existing in every advanced country of the world. The (CSChE) exists in Canada, in the USA, governing the development and organization of the profession whose members in North America are certified to practise Engineering by individual Engineering Associations in Canadian Provinces or States in the USA. The oversees also the McGill Chemical Engineering educational curriculum.
There is a very lively CSChE student chapter active in the Department.
