On December 13th at a ceremony hosted by the Canadian Governor General’s Office in Ottawa, Ebrahim (Eby) Noroozi, MSc'78 (Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry), was presented with The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers in the presence of Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada.

Three ECE students were rewarded for their exceptional promise as future power engineers by the Institute of Electric Power Engineering (IEPE) at their annual scholarship award ceremony held virtually on December 4th, 2020. Saul Valery Cano (U4 Electrical Engineering) was a awarded the Schneider Electric Scholarship valued at $3000. Helene Ma Yang and Xavier Pellemans (both U4 Electrical Engineering) received one of the Jean-Jacques-Archambault prizes awarded by Hydro-Québec. Helenewas awarded a $4000 scholarship, while Xavier grabbed the top $5000 award.

It’s official: our Supply Chain and Operations Management students are a force to be reckoned with on the international stage. A team of four students took first place and a €10,000 cash prize at the Final of the Global Student Challenge in Zwolle, the Netherlands.

Team members Nasim Changizi, Nasim Darabi, Shahryar Ebrahimi and Ahmad Kianimoghadam are all students in the School’s program.

Richard Lincoln in the Cosa group received the 2017 Gerhard Closs Award from the Inter-American Photochemical Society in Florida in the New Year, where he gave an award lecture entitled “Lighting and Enlightening the Chemistry of the Cell”. This award was set in remembrance of Professor Gerhard L. Closs by the Inter-American Photochemical Society to reward contributions from graduate and undergraduate students for oral presentation at the I-APS Winter Conference on any subject involving photochemistry. Prof. Tony Mittermaier was awarded a CFI-John R. Evans Leaders Fund to acquire a 800 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) magnet. Most human diseases are caused by malfunctions in the fundamental molecules of life: proteins, DNA, and 㽶Ƶ. Studying the structure and flexibility of the molecules at the atomic level therefore helps us to understand diseases and find cures, much in the same way that the blueprint of an engine can help us to fix it when it is broken.
