Congratulations to Samuel Dayo, Ataollah Saeed Monir, Mousa Karimi, and Professor Boris Vaisband on their paper titled "Statistical Weight Refresh System for CTT-Based Synaptic Arrays." The paper was presented at the ACM/IEEE Great Lakes Symposium on VLSI 2023. We are proud to announce that their work received the second-place Best Poster/Late Breaking Research (LBR) Award. ACM/IEEE GLSVLSI showcases cutting-edge research and innovations in VLSI design and provides a platform for experts to exchange knowledge and foster collaboration.

We are proud to announce that Yousef Safari, a PhD candidate in our Department, is the recipient of the prestigious IEEE Electronic Packaging Society (EPS) PhD Fellowship for 2023. Yousef’s work in large-scale heterogeneous integration has earned him this honor. ECE Professor Thomas Szkopek and Professor Marta Cerruti (Mining and Materials Engineering) lead the team that has recently obtained CFI funding through the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s (CFI) Innovation Fund competition for their project Functional Atomic-scale Materials Engineering (FAME).

Three ECE students were rewarded for their exceptional promise as future power engineers by the Institute of Electric Power Engineering (IEPE) at their annual scholarship award ceremony held virtually on December 4th, 2020. Saul Valery Cano (U4 Electrical Engineering) was a awarded the Schneider Electric Scholarship valued at $3000. Helene Ma Yang and Xavier Pellemans (both U4 Electrical Engineering) received one of the Jean-Jacques-Archambault prizes awarded by Hydro-Québec. Helene was awarded a $4000 scholarship, while Xavier grabbed the top $5000 award.

ECE Professor Tal Arbel recently presented research at the “AI and the Future of Cancer Research” (From the Goodman Cancer Research Centre’s Public Lecture Series).

Professor Arbel spoke about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and specifically her research focus on computer vision, already showing clinical success in the fields of brain tumours and multiple sclerosis.
