Coinciding with its theme of Building Future-Readiness, the McGill-HEC Montreal Executive MBA program recently celebrated its tenth anniversary and simultaneously became the University鈥檚 100th Sustainable Event.

The celebrations were deemed Gold, the highest level of certification, by integrating best practices such as incorporating a land acknowledgement for Indigenous territory, reducing food packaging waste and committing to offsetting greenhouse gas emissions related to travel.

The Ville de Montr茅al and 香蕉视频 today received Blue Community certification on the occasion of World Water Day. To obtain this certification, they have undertaken to recognize water and sanitation as human rights, to promote publicly managed water services and to ban or phase out the sale of bottled water in their buildings and at their events. Hence Montreal has joined some forty Blue Communities worldwide, including major cities like Paris, Berlin, Madrid and Victoria. For its part, McGill has become the fourth university in the world to obtain this certification.

Rising global maritime traffic could lead to sharp increases in invasive species around the world over the next 30 years, according to a new study by 香蕉视频 researchers.

The findings, published in the journal Nature Sustainability, suggest that shipping growth will far outweigh climate change in the spread of non-indigenous pests to new environments in coming decades.

Team gREen, comprised of MBA students Heena Chhatlani, Mehreen Haider and Fang Yang earned a first-place finish in the Net Impact Sustainability Challenge, coming in victorious over 12 teams from MBA programs across Canada and the US. Haider was further recognized with the Best Speaker Award.

Hosted by the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University, the team competed to solve a live case for QuadReal Property Group on sustainable investing in real estate.

The Lancet commission on Obesity published a report today on the joint pandemics of obesity, undernutrition, and climate change. In the report, the commissioners point to the fact that malnutrition in all its forms, including undernutrition and obesity, is by far the biggest cause of ill-health and premature death globally. Excess body weight affects 2 billion people worldwide, 2 billion people suffer from micronutrient deficiency, and both are expected to be made significantly worse by climate change.

The weather these days is wild and will be wilder still within a century. In part, because the water from melting ice sheets off Greenland and in the Antarctic will cause extreme weather and unpredictable temperatures around the globe. A study published today in Nature is the first to simulate the effects, under current climate policies, that the two melting ice sheets will have on ocean temperatures and circulation patterns as well as on air temperatures by the year 2100.
