The graduate students of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’s Faculty of Law are pleased to announce their annual graduate law conference.

The conference will be held in Montreal, Canada, on May 13 and 14, 2017. We invite graduate students in law and related disciplines to submit papers on the theme of the conference,  and particularly on issues of global significance. Speakers will present their research in panels on various aspects of the theme, each moderated by a chair.

The Faculty of Law and the Institute of Air & Space Law (IASL) are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Brian F. Havel as Director of the IASL.

Brian Havel is a Distinguished Research Professor of Law at DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, where he currently directs the International & Comparative Law Program and the International Aviation Law Institute.

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Professor Adelle Blackett, Ad. E., as been named the Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Transnational Labour Law and Development.

Blackett’s work, which addresses labour regulation in an era of neoliberal global governance, explores the intimate relationship between social and economic policy.

Seminar on Canada - EU Disputes

This prestigious prize, which is valued at $225,000, recognizes public intellectuals in the humanities and social sciences who venture beyond the boundaries of their disciplines to find new solutions to complex issues of major importance to Canadians.

We are delighted to welcome new colleagues, visiting professors, and fellows to the Faculty of Law. First, Professors Mark D. Walters and Kun Fan have joined the Faculty, arriving respectively from Queen’s and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

We are also welcoming Li Ka Shing Professor of Practice Cliff Manjiao Chi, from Xiamen University Law School, and Li Ka Shing Junior Fellow Dr. Hongqin Mu, from Shantou University Law School, who are both spending the fall term at the Faculty.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Vrinda Narain has accepted the mandate of Associate Dean (Academic) in the Faculty of Law, for a three year term beginning September 1, 2016.

Professor Narain’s research and teaching focus on constitutional law, social diversity and feminist legal theory. She was a Boulton Fellow in 2007, before joining the Faculty of Law as an Assistant Professor in 2008.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Robert Leckey as Dean of the Faculty of Law at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, starting July 1, 2016.  

Professor Leckey joined the Faculty of Law in 2006, and is currently a full professor and a William Dawson Scholar. He does research and teaches in the areas of constitutional law and family law, using a bilingual and transsystemic approach. He has received the McGill Law Students’ Association’s John W. Durnford Teaching Excellence Award (2009) and the Principal’s Prize for Excellence in Teaching (2010).

We are thrilled to announce the appointments of three colleagues to named chairs in the Faculty of Law.

  • Fabien Gélinas has been named Sir William C. Macdonald Professor of Law, for a seven-year term commencing May 1, 2016. Fabien Gélinas, who leads the Private Justice and the Rule of Law research team, specialises in international dispute resolution and arbitration.
