We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Robert Leckey as Dean of the Faculty of Law at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, starting July 1, 2016.  

Professor Leckey joined the Faculty of Law in 2006, and is currently a full professor and a William Dawson Scholar. He does research and teaches in the areas of constitutional law and family law, using a bilingual and transsystemic approach. He has received the McGill Law Students’ Association’s John W. Durnford Teaching Excellence Award (2009) and the Principal’s Prize for Excellence in Teaching (2010).

To encourage innovation and stimulate interest in research among law students at faculties of Quebec civil law, the Paul-André Crépeau Center for Private and Comparative Law is launching a student poster contest.

The contest is linked to the conference that will mark, on 12 February 2016, the Crépeau Centre’s 40th anniversary, during which poster submissions will be displayed and the  winners announced.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Richard Gold has accepted to serve the Faculty as Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) for a three-year term which started on September 1st, 2015.

A James McGill Professor, Richard Gold was the founding Director of the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy. He teaches in the area of intellectual property, international intellectual property, comparative intellectual property, innovation policy and intellectual property management. His research generally focuses on the life sciences.

Professor Angela Campbell was recently appointed Associate Provost (Policies, Procedures and Equity) (APPPE). She will step into the role on September 1. The APPPE is one of two Associate Provosts assisting Provost Christopher Manfredi in top-level academic governance at McGill.

Old Chancellor Day Hall, the Faculty of Law’s most iconic building, is closing at the end of June for 16 months as we undertake much-needed renovations to upgrade the building’s heating, electrical systems, plumbing, windows and more, while respecting its historical features.

Faculty and staff who were in OCDH have been relocated either to New Chancellor Day Hall and 3674-3690 Peel Street, or to rented office space near Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’s Roddick Gates at 2001 McGill College Avenue, suite 750.

The Faculty of Law of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ is delighted to announce that starting January 2014, it will host The American Journal of Comparative Law, in partnership with the Georgetown University Law Center. Professor Helge Dedek, who is Director of the Institute of Comparative Law at McGill, has been named co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, together with two colleagues in Washington D.C.
