Jayne MalenfantÌýis a doctoral student in the Faculty of Education and she has earned two of Canada’s most prestigious awards for graduate students – a Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship and a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship. That all might come as a surprise to some of the people who knew her in high school – especially if they remember that Malenfant was expelled from the school.

The Mohawk community of Kahnawà:ke and McGill launched the first-ever Bachelor of Education (B. Ed.)ÌýFirst Nations and Inuit Education (FNIE)ÌýÌýprogram to be given in the community of Kahnawà:ke, on August 20.

It’s a labour of love between McGill’s Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) in the Faculty of Education, and theÌýKahnawà:ke Education CentreÌý(KEC). It’s also in line with McGill’sÌýTask Force on Indigenous Studies and Indigenous Education.

Recently, the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) announced the recipients of its latest round ofÌý, including a McGill-led grant totalling around $25,000 over one year. One McGill researcher will also collaborate with a grant led by Ryerson University.
