On May 30th, 34 students from across Eeyou Istchee graduated from McGill, in the first program that allows northern Quebec Cree to learn from home to become teachers in their own community.

Two students from the Faculty of Education have earned a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship and Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship:

Rasel Babu, in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, received a McGill Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship for their research topic: "Pedagogues' Readiness to Integrate Educational Technology for Teaching Language and Mathematics in Bangladeshi Secondary Classrooms."

McGill's Faculty of Education and theÌýOffice of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) had a total of 46 graduates (16 deferred from Summer 2023 and 30 in 2023-2024) participate in the Summer 2024 convocation in the following programs:

  • 16 Graduates deferred from Summer 2023
  • 1 Certificate in Aboriginal Literacy in Education from (Cree School Board)
  • 15 Certificates in Education for First Nations and Inuit (Cree School Board)

Alarmingly, only 52 per cent of women who are married or in a union freely make their own decisions about sexual relations, contraceptive use, and health care. Working Nation, a US-based organization working to highlight career/technical education and vocational training across the country asked Dr. Michael Lipset (DISE) to appear on their video-based YouTube series highlighting workforce efforts in education.

Filmed at SXSW EDU 2024, the video was one of a series of guest spots they filmed throughout the week and covers 4 Learning’s approach to school change, which includes vocational training in the recording arts, business of music and media, and other creative endeavors.

Designed to encourage purposeful leadership, the scholarships enable students to pursue a funded degree while participating in mentorship, coaching, and a leadership development program.
