Research focuses on the area of (bio)colloid-surface interactions with applications in the protection of water resources, engineering of biosensors, antimicrobial materials, and development of safe nanotechnology.

Research areas are subsurface hydrology and the environmental impacts of energy development. Application areas include groundwater and greenhouse gas emissions related to oil and gas systems and geologic storage of carbon dioxide.
