Please read our admissions requirements carefully before applying.
Application Form
The application deadline for the M.Eng.: Sustainability in Engineering and Design program is January 15th of each year for the academic year beginning the following fall (September). There is no Winter or Summer admission.
Applicants are required to apply on-line and pay the application fee by credit card. Application fees and other charges are listed on the student accounts website. The application fee is non-refundable. Within 48 hours of submitting your payment, the applicant will be able to upload the other required supporting documents.
Supporting Documents
In addition to completing the on-line application, applicants must upload the documents the following supporting documentation to their on-line application on or before the application deadline:
- Transcripts: copies of official transcripts for the entire university-level academic record to date, including all programs (complete, incomplete, and/or in progress). Transcripts and degree certificates in a language other than English or French must be accompanied by official English translations. McGill transcripts will be uploaded automatically. Incomplete or inaccurate applications that are submitted can significantly delay or even prevent an admission decision. The applicant must, therefore, verify the following before submitting the application :
- Ensure that the title of the degree matches what is actually indicated on the transcripts, e.g., B.Eng., B.Sc., TÃtulo de Ingeniero, Diplôme d’Ingénieur (Diploma of Engineer). 'Bachelor' or 'Master' should be entered if there is no complete match.
- Ensure that the year each degree was granted matches what is actually indicated on the transcripts.
- Ensure that a copy of the degree certificate (diploma) is included if the transcript does not indicate that the degree has been conferred. For degrees that follow the British system, the overall standing should be included, if applicable.
- Ensure that each transcript includes the key or legend.
- Ensure that a separate record has been created for every institution mentioned in the transcripts that you upload, even if the grades for those institutions are already reflected in the transcript. This includes institutions from which transfer credits were received, or institutions where credits were earned during study-abroad or exchange terms. The only exceptions are high schools and Québec CEGEPs.
- McGill's online application system will require the applicant to enter the CGPA for your main degree(s). If it is not indicated in the transcripts, resources can be found at /gradapplicants/how-apply/you-apply-mcgill/equivalency to help determine this. The institute recognises that this is a complicated process. The applicant should not spend too much time on this detail; incorrect entries here will not affect the application;
- Letters of Reference: all applicants must arrange for two (2) letters of reference, at least one of which must be from a current or past professor, from individuals that can comment on the candidate's interest and potential for competence in undertaking the M.Eng; Sustainability in Engineering and Design. Reference letters must be specific to which program the student has applied to and include information that will aid an admissions committee in making an informed decision. Applicants must include their referees in the online application. Referees will be emailed a link to submit their reference online;
- Curriculum Vitae (CV): a copy of a recent CV, and;
- Personal Statement: a one-page personal statement describing the applicant's background, research interests and/or program streams of interest, and reasons for wishing to undertake the proposed program.
Test Scores
Applicants must ensure that the official test results are sent electronically to Ï㽶ÊÓƵ (institutional code: 0935) by the testing service by the application deadline. Applicants cannot upload their results themselves, nor can the administration upload paper copies of test scores.
- Proficiency in English - if applicable
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores - optional
