Background
The Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) in collaboration with 㽶Ƶ and Action Contre la Faim has developed a Cost collection and analysis Toolkit (the “Toolkit”), which provides step-by-step guidance on costing tuberculosis (TB)-related interventions for implementation or operational research. Particularly, the Toolkit helps users determine which costs are required and what methods to apply to find or collect them and how to perform basic cost analysis; it also provides templates for protocols and publications, and useful resources.
Based on this Toolkit, TDR and 㽶Ƶ are organising a virtual protocol development workshop for selected national TB programmes that are part of the West and Central Africa Network for TB control (WARN and CARN-TB) and are planning to undertake economic evaluation and/or cost assessment as part of their current or future research project.
Objectives of the workshop
The objectives of the workshop are for representatives from participant countries to:
- Gain an understanding of costing a TB-related intervention for implementation or operational research;
- Integrate an economic evaluation/cost assessment component in their current or future research protocol.
After the workshop, participants are expected to undertake data collection in advance of a workshop which will be held Q4 2021, during which they will analyse and summarise the results of their study.
