Successful 11th Annual TB Research Day Hosted by McGill International TB Centre

The McGill International TB Centre proudly hosted the 11th Annual TB Research Day, a hybrid event commemorating World TB Day, on March 22nd, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 4:30 pm. The event was a resounding success, attracting nearly 200 registered attendees. Approximately 70 individuals participated in person, while others joined virtually via Zoom.

The 2024 TB Research Day featured awards and prizes for students and trainees, underscoring the commitment to fostering the next generation of TB researchers. Attendees were treated to informative and engaging presentations by distinguished speakers who are experts and leaders in the field of Tuberculosis research.

Keynote speakers included:

- Dr. Joanne Langley from Dalhousie University, speaking on "Lessons learned from clinical trials of vaccines."

- Dr. Nick Menzies from Harvard University, discussing "Using mathematical and economic modeling to understand the global benefits of a novel TB vaccine."

- Dr. Maziar Divangahi from Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, presenting on "How to harness the power of innate immunity in TB vaccine development."

The event, themed "Vaccination for TB – where are we?" provided valuable insights and perspectives from renowned researchers. For those unable to attend in person, the event was seamlessly transmitted via Zoom, ensuring broader accessibility. A recording of the Zoom session is available .

Poster Pitches Best Biomedical and Clinical & Health Outcomes winners were:

- First place - $500 – Mina Sadeghi, poster: Investigating the regulation of bone marrow iron metabolism in hematopoiesis and host defense against TB

- Second place - $400 – Elias Jabbour, poster: Evaluating the costs of tuberculosis activities in Brazil

- Third place - $300 – Harsimren Sidhu, poster: Evaluating the acceptability of a hypothetical MDR TPT regimen among household contacts from high-burden countries: A qualitative study

And Best 2023 Publication Awards were:

- Emil Skamene Award for Best Paper in Basic Biomedical Research $500 Graduate Student Winner: Kim A. Tran with Paper title: BCG immunization induces CX3CR1hi effector memory T cells to provide cross-protection via IFN-γ-mediated trained immunity

- Jonathan Meakins Award for Best Paper in Clinical / Health Outcomes Research $500 Graduate Student Winner: Anita Svadzian with Paper title: Do private providers initiate anti-tuberculosis therapy on the basis of chest radiographs? A standardized patient study in urban India

- Margaret Becklake Award for Best Paper in Clinical / Health Outcomes Research $500 Postdoctoral Fellow Winner: Kamila Romanowski with Paper title: Healthcare Utilization After Respiratory Tuberculosis: A Controlled Interrupted Time Series Analysis
