Esther Kerry Scholarship

Established by a generous bequest from Esther Kerry, an active member of the School of Social Work Alumni Committee for many years. Offered each year to a student entering the B.S.W. program who demonstrates academic excellence. Awarded by the Faculty of Arts Scholarships Committee on the School of Social Work recommendation.

Barbara Cowan Prize in Social Work

Established in 2014 by Barbara Cowan, BA 1947, BSW 1948, MSW 1951, for three outstanding undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in Social Work.Ìý Awarded by the Faculty of Arts upon recommendation of the School of Social Work on the basis of academic merit.

Betty Assh Memorial Bursary

Established in memory of a former student in the School of Social Work. Awarded, by the School, to a BSW Mature Student in financial need. Inquiries should be directed to the Director of the Student Aid Office.

Patrick Deehy Memorial Bursary

Established in memory of a former teacher in the School of Social Work to provide assistance to disadvantaged undergraduate students in financial need. Inquiries should be directed to the Director of the Student Aid Office.

Teresa Dellar Scholarship in Social Work

Teresa Dellar Scholarship in Social Work Established in 2020 in loving memory of Teresa Dellar, MSW, by her family. Awarded by the Faculty of Arts Scholarship Committee, upon the recommendation of the School of Social Work, on the basis of academic merit to an undergraduate student enrolled in the School of Social Work in the Faculty of Arts at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ. Preference will be given to students with a demonstrated interest in palliative care.

Sadie Batist Aronoff Memorial Awards

Two awards, established in 2003 by a bequest from Sadie Batist Aronoff, Dip. Social Work 1930, for outstanding undergraduate students who have completed at least one year in a degree program in Social Work. Awarded on the basis of high academic standing by the Faculty of Arts Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of the School of Social Work.

Helena and Kurt Ekler Scholarship in Social Work

Established in 2017 by the generous bequest of Dr. Kurt Ekler, BSc 1946, PhD 1955, who taught Chemistry at Loyola College and Concordia University, from which he retired as Professor Emeritus. His wife, Helena Ekler, BSW 1965, MSW 1969, enjoyed a fine career as a social worker. To support undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Social Work. Awarded by the Faculty of Arts scholarships committee, in consultation with the School of Social Work, on the basis of academic merit..

Project Awards

A call for project proposals is distributed in the middle of the academic year.Ìý The School’s Fellowships Committee assesses applications, and awards are announced in January.Ìý Upon completion of the project, winners will submit a report outlining the project was undertaken and its results.

Freda L. Paltiel Award for Immigrant and Minority Women's Health and Development

For students or faculty of the McGill School of Social Work to undertake a research, service or demonstration project concerned with the health needs of immigrant and visible minority women and their families. Preference will be given to projects undertaken with the involvement of the intended beneficiaries.

For students or faculty of the McGill School of Social Work to undertake activities (research, service, demonstration project, seminar) in the area of social work and health, including mental health. Joan Macfarlane Bailin Research Award

Established by Joan Macfarlane Bailin, a graduate of the McGill School of Social Work, to recognize and promote academic achievement by students in the School of Social Work. This Award will permit students to undertake activities (action research projects, service demonstration projects, and seminars) relating to aging and/or the aged. Applicants must have completed one full year of study in the McGill School of Social Work. Preference will be given to submissions concerned with self-help, volunteerism and non-traditional and/or innovative work settings.Ìý The money cannot be used for salaries.
