Psychology Doctoral Practicum / Internship in Palliative/End-of-Life CareÌý
Program Description
Celebrating 40 years of service to the community, Palliative Care McGill has been a pioneering force in psychosocial training, research, and policy development at the local, national, and international levels. Following in this tradition, we are pleased to offer an applied psychology practicum/internship in the Balfour Mount Palliative Care Unit. The training period usually starts at the end of August and run through to April or May of the following year.
This part-time practicum/internship is run under the auspices of the Psychosocial Oncology Program (Clinical Director: Dr. Marc Hamel) at the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Health Center and is open to doctoral trainees (i.e., Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D.) in A.P.A./C.P.A. and/or O.P.Q. accredited graduate programs in Clinical or Counselling Psychology. This training is offered at the new Royal Victoria Hospital located at the Glen site (Montreal, Canada). This twelve-bed palliative care unit provides service to adults coping with advanced/life-limiting cancer, as well as their accompanying family and friends.
The intern will receive specialized training in psychological assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment in a health care setting, working with both inpatients and outpatients. Interns will provide services to individual, couples, and families. The intern also works closely with the interdisciplinary palliative care team including physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, music therapists, spiritual care providers, as well as psychologists. In addition to a clinical dossier, there is also the expectation that the intern will assist in some teaching.
Our faculty aspires to develop highly competent professionals who follow a scientist-practitioner model, are strong in assessment and diagnostic skills, can effectively address a broad range of psychological concerns, as well as demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to individual and cultural differences.ÌýÌýÌý Intern Testimonials
