In education, accreditation is a process by which programs engage in rigorous, cyclical evaluation of their compliance with provincially and/or nationally-accepted standards. The purpose of accreditation is to ensure and improve the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of a program.
Accreditation standards, cycles, and procedures are program-specific. In each case, programs are responsible for completing and submitting a self-study document to their accrediting body and undergoing an onsite visit by a survey team. Accreditation ensures that the Faculty of Medicine's medical education and health professional programs maintain their educational quality and excellence.
