Paul Giacomini, MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Paul Giacomini is a neurologist with expertise in multiple sclerosis and neuro-inflammatory disorders, as well as advanced neuro-imaging techniques. He studied medicine at the University of Toronto and returned to his native Montreal to pursue his neurology residency at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, followed by a clinical fellowship in multiple sclerosis, and post-doctoral studies evaluating non-conventional neuroimaging techniques in multiple sclerosis. He is the Director of the Neuro's Multiple Sclerosis Clinic, an Associate Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, and an Attending physician at the Montreal Neurological Institute (The Neuro) and the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Health Centre (MUHC).Ìý
In addition to an active clinical practice specializing in multiple sclerosis and related disorders, Dr. Giacomini has served as a principal investigator in numerous clinical trials evaluating novel therapeutics in relapsing and progressive multiple sclerosis. He is the director of the DEMySTIFI Data Project (Data Extraction in Multiple Sclerosis To Inform Future Interventions) a comprehensive database compiling clinical, imaging and biologic data to better understand treatment response and disease progression in MS. He is also involved in imaging research using artificial intelligence to predict treatment response in MS, with the goal guiding personalized treatment decisions. Lastly, he is actively involved in using innovative technologies to optimize patient care by helping to develop a practical bedside tool that can be used to assess function, progression and cognition in MS, as well as smart phone applications to minimize the side effects of MS therapies. Dr. Giacomini is also very active in continuing medical education, lecturing locally and nationally on the management of multiple sclerosis and related disorders. Ìý
