Do We Really Have to Have this Conversation? Handling Difficult Conversations at Work

Ìý

A recent study came out indicating that more than 80% of employees are running in fear of having at least one ‘scary’ conversation at work.[1]ÌýThese are important conversations that are being avoided thereby creating stress, escalated conflict, resentment and disengagement. Some of these could include conflict with a co-worker, a concern you’d like to raise with your boss, feedback to a direct report, issues in a team, to name a few.

Ìý

In this dynamic 3-hour interactive online workshop participants will:

  • Determine when it is desirable to have a difficult or hard conversation and when another approach would be more appropriate
  • Learn their default preferences when faced with one of these situations and how that might impact their decision making and behaviours
  • Understand how to prepare for a conversation using a preparation worksheet
  • Learn and practice a simple and effective framework or process to use when having a difficult conversation
  • Discuss how to deal with emotions in these situations
  • Identify steps to take after a difficult conversation to normalize and build for future conversations

Participants will be asked to complete a brief online assessment prior to the workshop and to bring their results to the session.

Ìý

We look forward to seeing you and tackling this critical topic together!
