My Neighbour's Faith: Ratha-yatra - Festival of India
Join MORSL for an outdoor summer installment of My Neighbour’s Faith! We will attend the Festival of India in downtown Montreal. The event starts with a parade that celebrates sacred stories from Hindu theology. It enacts a chariot ride, or Ratha-yatra, of the deity Krishna and his siblings Baladev and Subhadra. Parade attendees pull a forty-foot float carrying the gods down Boulevard St-Laurent, while others sing and dance. After the parade, we’ll enjoy a free vegetarian meal and learn about Hindu traditions at the festival at Jeanne-Mance Park.
Gather at MORSL at 12:15 PM. We'll travel to the parade location together. Please bring a metro pass or ticket. Please dress for a day outside in hot weather and wear comfortable shoes. Bring a hat or sunglasses, sunblock, and a water bottle. MORSL will bring some snacks. If the forecast looks like rain, we recommend brining an umbrella and/or rain jacket.
