Alumni

Ever since the establishment of McGill Weather Observatory in the middle of the nineteenth century, McGill has housed diverse and highly talented students in Meteorology and Oceanography who have produced ground-breaking research in these sciences. As a department, we are very proud of our former undergraduates and graduate students many of whom have gone on to great careers. We are also proud of our long-standing record of excellence in training the next generation of students by giving them opportunities to work as research associates and post-doctoral fellows following their studies.

The awards within the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences were made possible by the private philanthropic support of alumni, faculty and staff, as well as friends of the University. Private support is responsible for the majority of McGill’s student awards.

How can you help make us even better?

Your support can help us continue this tradition of training the next generation of meteorologists, climatologists, and oceanographers just to name a few experts in the field of atmospheric sciences and its related fields.

It will help to:

  • Create more opportunities for student research (e.g. summer scholarships or travel support to help our students travel to different parts of the world to learn from peers, and pursue leading-edge research).
  • Create new initiatives that formally recognize students' achievements in AOS (e.g. fee scholarships and awards).
  • Contribute to one of the established awards in the department.
  • Support for initiatives that reach a wider audience (e.g. public lectures and other forms of community outreach giving students experience in teaching and public speaking).

No gift is too small.

to make a tax-deductible gift to the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences or email jennifer.abbott [at] mcgill.ca (Jennifer Abbott).

When making a contribution to an existing award, please indicate which award, prize, fellowship or memorial fund you would like your gift designated to under ‘Other’ in the ‘My Gift’ section of the form, while referring to the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences.
