Standardized Patients

Standardized Patients (SPs) are individuals who have been trained to accurately and consistently recreate the parameters set-up in a scenario of an actual patient at a specific point in time. They may also be called upon to portray other health care professionals or family members.

At the Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning, we work with a database of over 200 SPs to meet the varied profiles requested by our faculty and clients. Many of our SPs are professional actors and have been with us since our inception in 2006. We also employ three full-time SP Coordinators who work with clients to define the objectives and who help to prepare the SPs for their roles.
