St-Joseph Sanatorium Hospital. Rosemont.

St-Joseph de Rosemont Hospital was established as a sanatorium for the treatment of tuberculosis in 1950 by the Misericordia Sisters (Soeurs de Miséricorde). It was located in the east end of the city of Montreal, which at the time had relatively few hospital beds compared with the city’s central area. In 1971, it merged with the Maisonneuve Hospital to become the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, affiliated with the University of Montreal. The Maisonneuve Hospital was founded by the Grey Nuns (Soeurs Grises) in 1954 and housed the Montreal Heart Institute for the first twelve years of its existence.
