ArielleClass of 2028 Languages: English, French, Ghomala’ (Learning) I never thought I would be able to realize my dream of being admitted to medical school. This goal seemed so far out of my reach. And yet, here I am, now a student ambassador for the class of 2028, living my wildest dream at a university focused on excellence and the success of all. I am Canadian of Cameroonian descent, living and having grown up in Quebec. My community, my family, and my friends are my strength. I am a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve (2022 – present) and a former Air Cadet (2014 – 2020). Additionally, I held the position of secretary on the Comité du Salon Étudiant de Drummondville (2023-2024), not to mention that I am actively participating in a research project aimed at implementing the "Participe-présent" program in long-term care facilities in the Mauricie-Centre-du-Québec. I value teamwork and communication, two essential human and social qualities. In addition to my attachment to order and discipline, I have a passion for art in all its forms, whether it's music from here or elsewhere, historical monuments, or painters such as Cornelius Krieghoff. Furthermore, I have a deep love for reading. I want to make a difference and share knowledge with the various immigrant communities in Montreal. In my opinion, education is the first bridge to support patients. I deeply wish to be part of this chain, particularly with young women who often find themselves in situations of intersectionality due to the complex socio-economic impacts they face. BrittanyClass of 2028 Languages: French, English, Twi My name is Brittany, and I am honored to serve as a Student Ambassador for the Class of 2028. I grew up in Laval with Ghanaian parents, which shaped my deep passion for healthcare and community from an early age. After earning my nursing degree at McGill, I worked as an ICU nurse at the Jewish General Hospital, which allowed me to sharpen my critical care skills. Later, I had the privilege of working with the Cree nation in Chibougamau, deepening my understanding of trauma-informed care and cultural sensitivity. Beyond my work, I am actively involved in the youth ministry at my church, where I enjoy empowering the next generation. I also have a passion for content creation and love spending time in nature, which helps me connect with God and His creation. When I’m not immersed in my studies, you’ll find me traveling, exploring new cultures, learning languages, and meeting people from different walks of life. I chose McGill Medical School for its genuine commitment to inclusivity, where I feel truly welcomed and valued as a person of color. EmilyClass of 2028 Languages: English, French My name is Emily, and I am so excited to serve as a student ambassador for the class of 2028! I am so privileged to be a McGill medical student and feel even luckier to be able to translate my experiences forward. I was born and raised in Montreal and have never left – it is truly the greatest city! Prior to medical school, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing here at McGill, then worked as a nurse in surgical oncology for two years. While studying and working, I also pursued research at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research in quality improvement in oncology settings. These experiences allowed me to think critically, problem solve, advocate for myself and for patients, commit myself to others and how to be a member of the interprofessional team, while also realizing that a different role was better suited to my strengths. I decided to shift from the bedside back to the classroom and knew McGill medicine was for me based on its renowned reputation, commitment to research, cadaver-based curriculum and diverse community. I am not all healthcare, though! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, spinning and barre, seeing my family and friends (especially if food is involved), and completing all the NYT games every day. GlebClass of 2028 Languages: Russian, French, English, Spanish (novice) My name is Gleb, and I’m a first-year medical student at the Montreal Campus. I’m really looking forward to meeting you all! I was born in Moscow and lived there until 2014. I moved to Saint-Bruno in the 5th grade and, prior to McGill, did all my schooling exclusively in French (and Russian). I went into medicine to combine my passion for science and my desire to make a real impact. I also hope to do a lot of research in the future and possibly pursue other graduate degrees. I play piano, violin, and guitar. I have played extensively in orchestras - performing four times at the Maison Symphonique and once at Star Académie! Now, I have a rock band with some of my friends from school. My favourite band is Rammstein; I have seen them play live twice - once in Milan and once here, in Montreal. How can I help you? HayleyClass of 2028 Languages: English, French, Tagalog (novice) My name is Hayley, and I am so honoured to be one of your Student Ambassadors for the Class of 2028! I’m a small-town soul through and through, having spent most of my life in Saint-Lazare, a rural community on the outskirts of Montreal. After moving to the city, I completed a Bachelor of Rehabilitation Science in Physical Therapy at McGill, through which I strengthened my passion for a career in healthcare. My decision to apply into medicine was cemented through multiple experiences that supported my interests in rural medicine and palliative care. Medicine, for me, is a medium through which I can honour my cultural roots and advocate for patients to change the face of healthcare. When I’m done my Anki cards for the day, you can find me doing anything outdoors. My weekends are often spent frantically planning last-minute camping trips or wiping out on the slopes of the Laurentians in the winter. JudeClass of 2028 Languages: English, French, Arabic (casual) Hey there, I’m Jude! I’m in my first year of medical school at McGill in Montreal. I moved to Montreal in 2017 from the United Arab Emirates, where I grew up, and I’m originally Syrian. I did my undergrad at McGill in immunology, graduated in 2021. Wanting to take a break from school after graduating, I worked for a year in clinical research at the Montreal Children’s Hospital before doing my master’s at McGill in epidemiology. These experiences doing research and talking to patients gave me the conviction that medicine was for me. Looking back, I really value having taken the time to explore other fields, not only because they helped me make my decision to enter medicine but also because I now want to incorporate research and working with children into my future career. In my journey of applying to medical school, talking to McGill medical students was invaluable to hear the experiences of people in the program and to get me excited to join this profession. I’m hoping to be that link to McGill medicine to people in my position as an applicant. Outside school, I love reading (I’ve been in a big fiction/drama phase recently) and being outside, be it hiking, jogging, visiting markets, or grabbing ice cream. I’d love to make someone else’s experience a little less scary, so it would be a pleasure to connect with you! |

MargarytaClass of 2028 Languages: English, French, Russian, Spanish (casual) Hi! I’m Margaryta, a member of the MDCM Class of 2028, and I am honored to be one of the student ambassadors for the Faculty of Medicine. Having moved to Montreal a year ago for my Med-P year, I have enjoyed the journey (and challenge) of adapting from my hometown of Trois-Rivières to this vibrant city. I have been interested in healthcare and medicine for as long as I can remember, and that passion has drawn me to McGill, which I believe is the ideal place to deepen my knowledge and gain valuable clinical experience through its comprehensive academic and clinical medical program, along with its numerous opportunities of extracurricular activities. Coming from a diverse background, I truly appreciate the multicultural environment that both McGill and Montreal offer. Being part of such a diverse and inclusive community, filled with engaging professors and inspiring doctors, makes me eager to spend my next four years here. Throughout my academic journey, I have been actively involved in various fields, from working with newly arrived immigrants to caring for long-term patients in hospitals, as well as engaging in different clubs during my Cégep and Med-P years. When I am not studying, I enjoy reading a good book, binge-watching medical and crime dramas on Netflix, traveling, hiking, or figure skating at one of Montreal’s outdoor rinks during winter. I am always eager to embrace new challenges and experiences, and I look forward to sharing my journey with future medical students who, like me, are driven by curiosity and a desire to make a difference. MatthewClass of 2028 Languages: English, French, Spanish (beginner) Hi, my name is Matthew and I am thrilled to be one of the Class of 2028 student ambassadors! Born and raised in Montreal, I grew up on McGill campus, from swimming lessons in the Memorial Pool to piano concerts at Tanna Schulich Hall. Now, I am living my dream of studying my first year of medicine on this very same campus. Before MDCM, I completed my Med-P year, where I had the opportunity to immerse myself in medical research, student initiatives, and campus life. While my path to medicine appears traditional, it is the result of extensive self-reflection over conflicting interests such as my long history of piano and debate. Nonetheless, my personal and family experiences in the medical field have drawn me to this challenging yet infinitely rewarding profession. I am also the first in my family to pursue medicine, so if you have any questions about whether medicine is the right choice for you, I would be more than happy to share my experiences and perspective! Outside of medicine, I love discovering new cafes for matcha lattes, attending cultural festivals, or being in nature. When not outside, I play piano and listen to my growing vinyl collection while learning languages or reading. While I could rant about Donna Tartt’s books endlessly, especially The Goldfinch, I am especially passionate about health advocacy; I work with Hema Quebec to diversify the stem cell registry, fundraise for a cancer research, and sit on a Quebec medical student Global Health counsel. These opportunities are truly what drew to me to McGill, helping me become the best scholar, leader, and well-rounded individual possible. |

PrincesseClass of 2028 Languages: French, English, Spanish (novice) Hi, my name is Princesse, and I am honored to be a student ambassador. I was born in Cameroon but grew up in Montreal. Before starting medical school, I completed a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at the University of Montreal and worked for a year in a COVID diagnostic laboratory at Charles Le Moyne Hospital. My passion for medicine began when I was young, inspired by my father’s dedication to his patients and to helping those around him. While working at Charles Le Moyne Hospital, my desire to pursue medicine deepened, as I realized it offers a perfect balance between scientific expertise and meaningful interactions with others. Studying medicine at McGill is an incredible opportunity, surrounded by amazing students and faculty from diverse regions across Canada and beyond. NasriClass of 2028 Languages: English, French, Arabic My name is Nasri Balit and I'm really looking forward to connecting with future applicants like you! I am originally Syrian, but grew up in Dubai. I moved to Montreal when I was 17 to attend CEGEP and have been here ever since! The winters weren't enough to scare me away. On the other hand, they’ve actually become one of my favourite parts of living here. Since CEGEP, I’ve done a Bachelor’s in Physiology, a Master’s in Physiology and worked for 2 years as a Research Assistant, all at McGill. Safe to say, I know my way around this campus. As someone with a bit of an unorthodox path to medicine, I can relate to the unique challenges some mature applicants may be going through, and would be happy to chat more about this. Throughout the application process, I really valued talking to McGill medical students and asking questions about the curriculum and what medical school was actually like. Would love to pay that forward. Outside of school, I really like to cook, keep fit and exercise with friends.
