Annual giving to the Library

Private support has always played an important role in providing the resources needed to fulfill the mission of the McGill Library: providing students and researchers with the best possible information resources, equipment, and comfortable and inviting settings. Annual support to the Library comes from three main funds:

Alma Mater Fund

Gifts made by McGill alumni on an annual or recurring basis to the McGill Annual Fund are an important part of private support to the libraries. Annual gifts, while usually designated to a general area, are unrestricted. That means they are valuable for the flexibility they give the University to respond to priorities that emerge each year.

Parents Fund

The late Joan and Clifford Hatch, ardent supporters of McGill’s Library for almost forty years, established the Parents Association in 1963 in an effort to forge closer relationships and communication between the University and the parents of its students. Perhaps the most important initiative of the Parents Association was the establishment, by Mr. and Mrs. Hatch, of the Parents Fund dedicated to the improvement of library collections. Through its annual donations from parents of current and past students, the Fund helps to improve library resources and ultimately contributes to the growth of the University.

Faculty and Staff Fund

Established in 1989, the McGill Faculty and Staff Fund encourages those who work for the University to make annual donations.
